AP Calculus Exam Prep – Using @SocraticOrg to Promote Thoroughly Constructed Answers to Past Free Response Questions #mathchat

We are formally in crunch mode as we prepare for the AP Calculus AB exam. So again, we turned to Socratic to post well constructed solutions to 2013 AP Calculus Free Response questions. This time around, we were able to achieve my final goal – students revised their classmates posts – and then did a final reflection. The structure of the activity was:

  1. students solve their assigned AP FRQ, in groups of 2
  2. students type their answer in Socratic, along with detailed explanation of their thought process
  3. students share their post to a Google Doc, so that we can view all responses as a class
  4. students make edits to another group’s Socratic solution (this is done in Socratic)
  5. I make final edits to each groups’ post (this is done in Socratic)
  6. using the “updated” answer view in Socratic, students write a paragraph comment on the revisions that were made to their original Socratic post
